Hodgdon H1000 Smokeless Powder
Hodgdon H1000 Powder is a very slow burning Extreme Extruded stick powder is perfect for highly overbored magnums like the 7mm Remington Magnum, 7mm STW and the 30-378 Weatherby. In addition, with heavy bullets, H1000 gives top velocity and performance in such cartridges as the 6mm-284, 257 Weatherby, 270 Winchester, and 300 Winchester Magnum. In a short period of time this powder has achieved considerable notoriety among long range match shooters.

Usually, large-kernel extruded powders are a nightmare to run through an automated powder dispenser, but H1000 cuts and flows surprisingly well. My electronic scale throws highly precise, identical charges with very few over-throws.

I worked up my precision load in the dead of winter at -10°C, and shot the exact same batch in mid-July at 32°C. My velocity shift was less than 15 FPS across that entire temperature swing. Hodgdon’s Extreme line definitely lives up to the hype.

Some slow-burning powders leave a sticky, tar-like carbon crust in the throat area of your barrel. H1000 burns incredibly clean from shot to shot, meaning my accuracy doesn’t degrade over a long 50-round string of fire at match events.

My factory hunting rifle was a solid 1.25 MOA gun with factory ammo. After handloading some heavy Berger VLDs over a healthy charge of H1000, it instantly dropped to a consistent 0.45 MOA shooter. It breathed entirely new life into my rifle.

If you reload for a 7mm Remington Magnum, stop looking. H1000 paired with 160+ grain bullets is absolute magic. It gives me incredible velocities with almost zero pressure signs and consistently prints ragged single-hole groups at 100 yards.

Loading 215-grain and 230-grain bullets in the 300 Precision Rifle Cartridge (PRC) requires a slow, progressive burn to safely maximize velocity. H1000 fills the case volume perfectly and provides the ultimate push for heavy-for-caliber projectiles.
